GAISSA members Alexandra González and Vincenzo De Martino participated in the inaugural Hiili Congress, a key event bringing together leaders from government, industry, and academia. The congress focused on addressing the carbon footprint of AI, highlighting the urgent need for clear regulations, greater transparency, and collaborative efforts to align technological innovation with environmental responsibility.

GAISSA members Alexandra González and Vincenzo De Martino participated in the first edition of the Hiili Congress, which brought together representatives from government, industry, and academia to address the issue of the carbon footprint of artificial intelligence and digital processes. The event explored how digital transformation can align with environmental responsibility.

One of the central themes that emerged was that governments are stepping up their efforts to improve sustainability. Across the EU and Spain, there is an increasing emphasis on greater transparency in energy and water consumption, along with new regulations. However, technological innovation continues to outpace regulation. Many companies are calling for clear guidelines to prevent greenwashing and ensure that sustainability efforts are truly measurable.

Finally, the conference highlighted the growing commitment to addressing these challenges, recognizing that innovation and sustainability must go hand in hand, highlighting how research, industry, and society can work together to build more ethical, transparent, and efficient AI systems.
