GESSI Organizes ESEM 2024, Highlighting Research in Green Software
Jul 10, 2025
In October 2024, the GESSI research group organized the 18th ACM/IEEE International Symposium on Empirical Software Engineering and Measurement (ESEM) in Barcelona. The event featured a special advanced school focused on green and sustainable software, directly aligning with the goals of the GAISSA project and bringing leading experts to the UPC.
The GESSI research group successfully organized the Empirical Software Engineering International Week (ESEIW 2024), which hosted the 18th ACM/IEEE International Symposium on Empirical Software Engineering and Measurement (ESEM). The conference took place from October 20-25, 2024, at the North Campus of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya.
The event brought together leading international researchers and practitioners to present and discuss the latest findings, challenges, and innovations in empirical software engineering.
A major highlight of the week was the International Advanced School on Empirical Software Engineering (IASESE), held on Wednesday, October 23. This year’s school centered on a topic of critical importance to the GAISSA project: "Empirical studies targeting green and sustainable software and energy measurement.” Led by internationally-known instructors from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, the school educated attendees on understanding software sustainability and applying practical energy measurement techniques, methods that are core to the mission of GAISSA.
